Galaxy Collision

The object known as Arp 148 - at first sight the flowering of a cosmic firework - is a collision, apparently ongoing, between two galaxies. The pattern, 500 million light-years away in Ursa Major, comes from the shockwave produced by the collision. The image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
